Benjamin Andrew Stokes was born in  Christchurch, New Zealand, his father’s name is Gerard Stokes who is rugby league footballer and coach. Gerard was appointed as head coach of Workington Town rugby league club in England so Ben Stokes’ family moved to England when was 12. 

He grew up in the small town named Cockermouth and played cricket for Cockermouth cricket club. His aim was to become an English International cricketer.

International Career:

Ben Stokes debut in ODI was against Ireland in 2011, he was just 3 runs in his first match. He was selected in the Ashes series against Australia in 2014 and Ben Stokes debut in test came in the 2nd test he took 2 wickets in the first innings and 28 runs in the second innings and ended up in the losing side. 

Then he was selected for the third test and took 2 important wickets in the first innings and scored his maiden test century of 120 in the second innings and at the end of the series England was whitewashed for 5-0.

Ben Stokes was selected in the England squad for the 2017 Champion Trophy and scored his 2nd ODI century against South Africa and third against Australia but in the end England could not make it to the finals as Pakistan defeated England in Semi Finals. Ben Stokes  was named as part of the team of the tournament.

In a four series against South Africa he scored a total of 299 runs which includes a century in the Oval and took 7 wickets in the series.

2019 ICC World Cup:

Stokes was selected in the England squad of the 2019 World cup, in the opening match against South Africa he took 89 runs and took 2 wickets and was named man of the match and he took off the best catch of all time in the match. 

Then he scored 82 runs and 89 runs in the second and third match against Sri lanka and Australia but ended up losing, then in a must win match against India Ben Stokes scored 79 runs in 54 balls and won by 31 runs. In the final against New Zealand he scored unbeaten of 84 runs and also hit 2 sixes in the last over to make tie, and he played the super over and England won the World cup 2019, Ben Stokes was the team of the tournament.

Greatest Innings Of All Time:

In 2019 there held a 5 match ashes series,Ben stokes played a blinder inning which no one will forget, he scored an unbeaten of 135 when 1 wicket was remaining and took the game till the last over won the match for England and equalled the series for 2-2.

In 2022 he was named as the England test captain and brought a new style of gameplay known as Bazball.

In the 2022 T20 world cup he scored 52 runs in the final against pakistan and made England win the World cup.

IPL Career:

In 2017 he was bought by the Rising Pune supergiants and scored his maiden T20 century against Gujarat Lions. He was awarded most valuable player in that season. In 2018 he was bought by Rajasthan Royal for 1.7 million USD, he is the most expensive player of 2018 auction. He did not play 2022 IPl as he wanted to focus for his country and in 2023 IPL csk bought him for 16.25 cr .
