Early Life and Domestic Cricket
Bumrah was born on December 6th, 1993 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father died when he was 5. His mother Daljit Bumrah raised him and he started his cricket journey at the school where his mother worked.
He often got rejected due to his unconventional bowling action. But upon practicing and working so hard he managed to secure his spot in the U-19 district team, not in the squad of 15 but as a reserve player only due to the distrust of the selectors on his style of action in bowling.
After a few matches, he got a chance to play. He picked up seven wickets in his debut match. From there his growth and development became inevitable. He played for Gujarat in domestic cricket. He made his Ranji debut in October 2013 against Vidharbha. He was the major reason Gujarat won the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2015-2016.
Gateway called IPL
Bumah was bought by Mumbai Indians in 2013 and he made his debut in IPL against RCB in that very season itself. His first IPL wicket was Virat Kohli and he picked three wickets in that match.
He played a couple of matches in the season of 2013 and was benched for the remaining matches. Mumbai retained him for the next season. Under the guidance and teachings of Lasith Malinga, one of the greats of the game, he mastered the art of bowling toe-crushing yorkers. He became Mumbai’s go-to-death bowler, and his unorthodox bowling action made it too difficult for batters to pick him.
He is one of the major reasons Mumbai lifted their last three trophies. He’s the second-highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians after Lasith Malinga picking 145 wickets so far.
International Career
Upon performing well in the IPL, he was given a chance to play in Indian colors in 2016. He made his ODI debut against Australia and took his first wicket by dismissing Steve Smith and finished with 2/40 in that match. He next was selected for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2016. He took crucial wickets as the tournament progressed. He continued to show his bowling prowess in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Though he picked up only 5 wickets in 4 matches, he was very economical. Till now his no-ball to Fakhar Zaman in the finals of the Champions Trophy is remembered by some but he made the majority forget by his consistent match-winning performances.
He made his test debut in 2018 against South Africa. He took his first five-wicket haul in the 3rd match of the series. Even though India lost the series against South Africa, Bumrah showed his class and proved that he is an all-format bowler. He then performed well against England and Australia and took fifer against both teams. By doing so Bumrah became the first Asian bowler to take five-wicket hauls in Australia, England, and South Africa in the same calendar year.
Bumrah is the third Indian bowler to pick a hat-trick in Tests and the second-fastest Indian to 100 ODI wickets. Surprisingly he holds the record of scoring a maximum number of runs in an over in tests by hitting 35 runs against Stuart Broad of England.
Conclusion
Jasprit Bumrah’s journey from a young boy in Ahmedabad to becoming one of the world’s most feared fast bowlers is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and talent. His impact on cricket is undeniable, and his legacy will inspire future generations of cricketers. People who criticized his bowling action are in awe!!.
