Steve Smith was born in Kogarah,Sydney, Australia. His father’s name is Peter and mother’s name is Gillian. Steve Smith studied in Menai High School till the age of 17 and quit it to play cricket in England and he played for a club named Sevenoaks Vine. He used to be a spin bowler till the age of 15 and turned into a batter after years.
International Career:
Steven Peter Devereux made his International T20 debut against Pakistan as a leg spinner and made his One day international against West Indies. Smith was selected in the Australian squad for 2010 ICC T20 World cup and Smith took 11 wickets which is the second highest in the tournament and finished as the runners up.
Steve Smith test debut was against Pakistan in 2010 at lords. He was mainly selected for his bowling and took 3 wickets in the second innings and in the second test he bowled only 10 overs and scored 77 runs down the order when Australia were 88 all out in the first innings. Due to his batting performance he was promoted to 6 spot in 2011 Ashes series. And scored two half centuries. In 2013 Steve Smith test first century in the fifth match in the Ashes series scoring 138 runs.
In a 5 match ODI series against South Africa in 2014 he scored a 10, 73*,104 and 67. He Scored a total of 254 runs at an average of 84.67. Which is the highest for Australia in the ODI series. And consequently won man of the series award. In a test series against India he scored 4 consecutive centuries and joined an elite list with Sir Don Dradman, Neil Harvey, Jack Fingleton and Matthew Hayden for scoring consecutive centuries. In that series he scored 769 runs at the average of 128.16
2015 ODI World Cup:
In this tournament, Smith played as the versatile batter. He didn’t start well but after some matches, he got in the rhythm and scored a half-century against Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka and knocked out India in the semi-final by scoring a century and winning the World cup. He was Australia’s highest run scorer in the tournament by scoring 402 runs at an average of 67, he was named the team of the tournament by ICC.
In 2017 they held an India tour. Smith scored a century in the first innings and got a total of 300 and defeated the Indian team in India since 2004. He broke the 19-match undefeated streak. Then he again scored a century in pune which is very impossible to score in that kind of pitch, everyone was stunned by scoring a century in that kind of a pitch. Australia won the series and Smith was the highest run scorer in that series scoring 499 runs at an average of 71.29
In the 2019 ICC World Cup, Australia selected Smith in a 15 member squad and he scored a couple of runs in the league stage and scored a fine knock of 85 runs against England in the semi finals but ended up in the losing side. He became the second player to score four 50+ runs in the cricket world cup knockouts.
2019 Ashes Series:
Smith was selected in the Australian Squad for the ashes series, in the first match he scored a century in both the innings. British media announces that Smith’s first innings century was the one of the finest innings and even Smith says that his first inning century was the best century ever. Then in the second test he scored 80 runs and got hit by the ball bowled by Jofra Archer and returned to field and got out on 92 and he was ruled out the 3rd test. In his 4th test he scored his third double century and became the first man in the history to score 500+ runs in the three Ashes series. Australia won the series and Smith scored a total of 774 runs at an average of 110.58 . He was the No one test player.
He was selected for the 2021 T20 world cup held in Uae, he played a floating position and ended up winning the world cup and scored just 69 runs.
In the 2023 ICC World test championship final , Smith was selected in the Australian squad for the final against India and he scored a 121 runs and 285 runs partnership with Travis head and won the World test championship.

Steve Smith became captain of the Cricket player Australia cricket team in 2015. He has captained for only 11 matches such as 4 test matches and 7 ODIs. He was the captain of Australia when he defeated India in 2017 since 2004. From 2021 he was the vice captain of Australia’s test team.

Ball-Tampering Scandal:
In March 2018 , there was a test match against Australia and South Africa, Cameron Bancroft was caught by the TV camera for rubbing the ball with sandpaper to make the ball rough on one side to make the ball swing. Steve Smith was found involved in the tampering and they were banned for a year and Smith captaincy was taken away by the Australian management
