T20 2022 - India's Amazing Young Talents

India vs Sri Lanka – T20 :

India T20 Team

Team India turned back to winning ways after an astonishing 3-0 clean sweep over West Indies in the recently concluded T20 series, in which the Caribbean nation is considered the most lethal. There were some brilliant performances throughout the series, a lot of positives to take away. The most interesting one to be noted is that the major stalwarts of the team, like Rohit, Kohli, Pant, and Chahal, were mere contributors to the team effort. It was a series which gave opportunities to our young talents to showcase their skills, little did they know that they will be the ones majorly responsible for the triumph!

So let’s take a closer look at the performances of 4 such youngsters playing at their full potential, which was just mesmerizing stuff. The data for the following analysis has been obtained from cricsheet.org.

PS: BPB- Balls per Boundary, SR: Strike Rate, Avg: Average, Eco: Economy

Young Talents – India :

1. Suryakumar Yadav :

suryakumar yadav

This future star for India was rightly adjudged the Man of the Series for his match-winning knocks in 2 of the 3 matches. Although N Pooran scored about 80 runs more than Surya in the series, the context of his runs was more important, leading his side to victories. He played the twin role of anchoring the innings in the middle and showing batting firepower at the death. Surya’s very low Dot% shows that he kept rotating the strike whenever boundaries were hard to come by. His SR in both the middle and death overs is phenomenal, also scoring a boundary every 3 balls in the death!

2. Venkatesh Iyer :

venkatesh iyer

After a sluggish start to his international career representing India, V Iyer showed in this series that he’s here to stay. He put the foot on the pedal to score at a blistering pace in all the 3 matches. The fact that he was dismissed only once in the entire series after some great power-hitting showcases his talent at the fag end of the innings. Iyer also took only 3.5 balls to score a boundary. He also chimed in with 2 crucial wickets of Pollard and Holder in the last match of the series.

3. Ravi Bishnoi :

ravi bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi couldn’t have asked for a better start to his international career. Making his debut in the 1st game of the series for India, he took 2 wickets for just 17 runs in his 4 overs! He was adjudged the Man of the Match for those figures. In the next 2 games, he picked up only 1 wicket but kept things quiet at the other end. A Dot% of almost 60% after 2 high-scoring games is just staggering. He was economical throughout the series, hardly giving loose balls away.

4. Harshal Patel :

harshal patel

The best bowler of last year’s IPL showed his true mettle this time around, being the highest wicket-taker of the series at 5 wickets. Harshal Patel had a poor 1st game but bounced back effortlessly in the next 2, bowling crucial spells in the middle and death overs. He kept things really difficult for the batters, with tight lines and a change of pace doing the trick. Although his economy is on the higher side, his Dot% is quite good. He proved to be more than useful in the death overs, (taking a wicket every 13 balls bowled and 19 runs conceded) when the Windies batsmen were threatening to take the game away on both occasions.

Conclusion:

So these were the star performers for India in the previous series’, all youngsters, trying to make their mark and set foot in the Indian setup for the long run. Although Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out of the Sri Lanka series with an injury, these 3 players and others like Ishan Kishan, R Gayakward, and Avesh Khan would be looking forward to delivering consistent performances and taking India to win on a regular basis.
